CONFIRMATION EVALUATION

Horse Legs Confirmation

STANCE

28- Legs set outside/inside/vertical lines ( 5 )

This entry is to acquaint you with the terms, "Base Wide," and the opposite, "Base Narrow." By themselves as deviations from the ideal, a wide or narrow base is not too serious

29- Knees set outside/inside/vertical lines ( 5-10 )

Now the reason for judging conformation by imaginary lines should become obvious. At first reading. This entry might seem a repeat , as if the legs are set outside, well, of course, the knees will be too. But there is a difference. Take a base wide stance where the hooves meet the ground, and base narrow knees, and the condition is obviously "Knocked Knees." The opposite, base narrow hooves, and base wide knees, is "Bowlegged."

Both of the popular descriptions here happen to be self-explanatory. Many aren't. And why try to remember what something is called, or where to look for same, when deviations from the vertical guides are so visually apparent?

30- Ottset knee ( 10 ) [ 77,78]

Called Bench Knees, it looks as if the building blocks of the leg are stacked so that the structure is about to topple.
