CONFIRMATION EVALUATION 31- Toes pointing out, base narrow ( 8-10 ) [ 70,71,72,73] A dangerous conformation, this condition is prone to lameness below the fetlock. 32- Toes pointing out, base wide ( 5-8 ) [70,71,72,73] The direction the hooves are pointing is sometimes referred to as "Broken In," or "Broken Out," without taking into consideration the base of the legs. Base wide horses tend to stand with toes pointing out, but as the legs are separated, the end results are not as serious as the above. 33- Toes pointing in, either base ( 3-5 ) [70,71,75] Not desirable, yet of the three toe stances just mentioned, it is the least likely to cause an injury. Most probable result would be strained ligaments.
